Description of work

The aim of the Grand Research Challenge work package is to provide a framework to identify and formalize challenges rather than to solve these challenges. It is clear that in order to advance the future of technology-enhanced learning, we need to:

  • look beyond the STELLARnet network and actively solicit the views, knowledge, feedback and visions of key stakeholders in TEL: researchers, developers, end-users.
  • identify crucial research questions and priorities via jointly executed research.
  • promote the integration of key European research teams through collaborative projects, research exchanges, sharing of tools, models, concepts, methods and agendas.

This work involves a significant amount of work for the Network partnership as it will set ALL the critical targets for the remaining WPs. Each will require substantial virtual and physical interactions between our community to integrate us together and to bring in critical views from the international TEL field. The following tasks have been defined to meet these objectives.

Task 1: Conduct two rounds of Delphi studies with key TEL stakeholders. Each study starts with a vision statement. After two or more rounds of discussion, the results will be analyzed and disseminated to the WP3 Incubator and Rendez-Vous activities (Lead: ALU-FR and KMRC).
    Task 2:
Scout new technologies and assess their innovative value (Research and Technology Scouting). Organize a central information point for current research opportunities, infrastructure and capacity (Lead: LUH and EPFL).
    Task 3:
Define new TEL research challenges and refine existing ones in an ongoing road-mapping activity. Each iteration of the roadmap will be disseminated to and discussed by the Meeting of the Minds and the Stakeholder Groups (Lead: UB and ZSI).
    Task 4:
WP1 embodies the Scientific backbone of the STELLAR Network, and it is here that monitoring and tracking Scientific Excellence must take place. This task relates to ensuring that WP1, WP2 and WP7 in particular connect to support the Scientific leadership of STELLARnet (Lead: UKOU).

As can be seen from the deliverables below, with these activities we aim to cover all thematic areas.
