Founded in 1457, the University of Freiburg (www.uni-freiburg.de) is one of the oldest German universities and now one of the countries' leading research and teaching institutions. Currently, the university has 21.500 students and 13.000 employees. In 2007, it was awarded excellence status under the Excellence Initiative of the German Federal and State Governments for the promotion of science and research. As a founding member of the "European Confederation of Universities on the Upper Rhine" (EUCOR; www.eucor-uni.org), the University of Freiburg has given new impetus to the integration of the systems of higher education in Europe.
The research group Cognition-Emotion-Communication is part of the university's Institute of Psychology (Link to research group). The institute has approximately 700 students and 120 staff members, and ranks as one of the leading institutes in Germany regarding both research and teaching quality.
For STELLARnet, the ALU-FR group will bring experience from the last 15 years where the Research Group Cognition-Emotion-Communication has been involved in several national and international TEL projects, for example as contributors to the DFG Priority Program "Net-Based Knowledge Communication in Groups" (www.wissenskommunikation.de), the ESF Research Program "Learning in Human and Machines", and as member of the Research Team "Computer-based Analysis and Visualization of Collaborative Learning Activities" within the Kaleidoscope network of excellence (http://cavicola.noe-kaleidoscope.org).
