SCIENTER is a research and innovation support centre, active in the field of education and training. It is a non-profit organisation, set up in January 1988, which includes the University of Bologna among its shareholders.
It has been working at a European and an International level in the triangle of Research, Policy and Innovative Practice related to learning systems. It has been active since 1990 in Research Framework Programmes of the EU and in research activities at national level, it advises the European Commission and several national and regional governments on new policies and programmes, participates in policy impact analysis and supports major innovative programmes across Europe and in Latin America, mainly related to the use of ICT in learning.
Through its participation as a founding member of the MENON Network EEIG, SCIENTER contributes to observatory activities on innovation of Learning Systems run in collaboration with the main European Networks in the field of TEL and distance learning. It is also active on quality of eLearning, and leads the European Foundation for Quality in eLearning, supported by the European Commission. Scienter is was leading partner in the Kaleidoscope Gateway and users' group initiatives. Its president, Mr. Claudio Dondi, was also a member of the Kaleidoscope core group. Scienter is at the moment contributing to open up the TEL research community to the wider world through the establishment of the stakeholders club, and is focused on connecting the current stakeholder community into the wider STELLARnet world.
