Open University of the Netherlands, Netherlands (OUNL)

The Open Universiteit Nederland (Open University of the Netherlands, OUNL) is an independent government-funded institute for distance learning at the university level. The OUNL experts who will participate in the project will come from the Centre for Learning Sciences and Techologies (CELSTEC) which is responsible for the innovation task of the OUNL and has a staff of around 100 researchers and developers.

The results of CELSTEC include the development of an educational modelling language (EML), which in a slightly modified form was adopted by the IMS consortium as one of its specifications (IMS Learning Design). IMS LD is a language for modelling learning scenarios of any kind in machine readable, portable ways.

CELSTEC currently runs three research programmes a master program for Learning Sciences and a Laboratory implementing open innovation programmes across the research. The research programmes are Learning and Cognition, Learning Networks for Professsionals, and Learning Media, including Immersive, Social, and Mobile Media research.
