Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, Germany (LMU)

The Chair of Education and Educational Psychology is administered by the Department of Psychology (Faculty of Psychology and Education) at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). The LMU regularly is among the top three universities in Germany in most international rankings. In 2006, the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Science Council awarded the LMU with the title "Excellence University". This title is associated with an additional funding of 190 million euros until 2011.

The teaching and research of the Chair of Education and Educational Psychology is concerned with learning, instruction, and collaboration in different educational contexts. About 15 senior researchers and PhD students conduct research projects on learning and instruction with TEL. The focus of the research is on learning, instruction, and collaboration. We are referring to theoretical approaches that regard learning as active, constructive, and essentially a social process. The research projects are situated in school contexts, as well as in the fields of higher and further education. The Chair of Education and Educational Psychology has ongoing relations to strong research groups in computer science, educational science, psychology, and medicine/ medical education. Furthermore, the workgroup is part of active research networks both at national and international level. On a national level, for example, it is co-directing the DFG Research Group "Orchestration of computer-supported processes of learning and instruction in the classroom" (http://www.uni-tuebingen.de/fg738/). On an international level, active collaborations are established with the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland), the University of Toronto (Canada), and the Carnegie Mellon University (Pittsburgh, USA). The Chair is also collaborating with specific partners from industry, including Steelcase (with regard to furniture for TEL scenarios) and DIDACTIC MEDIA (with regard to learning management systems).
