Research at UB for the Mobility Programme

The Graduate School of Education (GSoE) at the University of Bristol is a large research-based education department, widely considered to be one of the leading departments in the UK. Research within the Graduate School of Education is organised around nine research centres which all work within the overarching theme of culture and learning in organisations. Members of the Centre for Learning, Knowing and Interactive Technologies (L-KIT) play a leading role in STELLAR, although members of other research centres (for example the Centre for Globalisation, Education and Societies, and the Centre for International and Comparative Studies) also make contributions. L-KIT is concerned with developing theories and practices which increase understanding of how cultural, cognitive and technological tools shape and support learning and knowing. The GSoE works in partnership with the Department of Computer Science at Bristol University, Futurelab and many schools within the Bristol area. There is an extensive portfolio of funded research projects, internationally recognised researchers and a flow of national and international visitors. There is a strong research student community, supported by regular seminars, workshops and networking opportunities. Research interests of colleagues includes: mathematics and science education; technology in music education; informal learning with ICT; design of learning spaces; mobile learning; video methodologies; neuroscience and education and TEL in Higher Education. We would be interested in hosting a doctoral candidate who is working within any of the three STELLAR Grand Challenges. A successful candidate would be expected to work collaboratively with members of the Bristol team to follow a negotiated line of research, as well as helping to develop the STELLAR Grand Challenge wiki (http://stellarnet.eu/d/1/1/Home). A successful candidate would be assigned a Bristol advisor for the duration of the exchange period. You can find out more about our work at Bristol from www.bristol.ac.uk/education.
